Distance Calculator
Use this free distance calculator to measure approximate distance between points on a map. Click on the map to add measurement points and see the total distance update as you build the line.
The tool is useful for estimating straight-line distances, walking paths, property edges, outdoor routes, coast-to-coast checks or any custom map measurement that does not require turn-by-turn routing.
Results are shown in both kilometers and miles. Use the unit switcher to choose whether metric or imperial values appear first.
How to Measure Distance on the Map
Zoom to the area you want to measure, then click the first point on the map. Click additional points to extend the measurement line. The total distance updates automatically as new points are added.
Use the clear button to remove all points and start again. For road distance between two places, use the Driving Directions tool instead, because this distance calculator measures direct map distance between selected points.
What This Distance Calculator Is Useful For
This tool is best for quick approximate measurements where you want to choose the points manually. It is not limited to roads, so it can be used across land, water or mixed terrain.
- Measure straight-line distance between two points
- Add multiple points to estimate a custom path
- Compare distances in kilometers and miles
- Check approximate outdoor or walking distances
- Measure across water, parks or open areas
- Use fullscreen mode for more precise clicking
Map Distance vs Driving Distance
Map distance and driving distance are not always the same. This page measures the line between the points you select on the map. If you click only two points, the result is a direct point-to-point distance.
Driving distance follows roads and may be much longer because of turns, access restrictions, bridges, one-way streets and available routes. To calculate road-based distance and travel time, use the Driving Directions page.

Distance Calculator FAQ
What does the distance calculator measure?
The distance calculator measures approximate map distance between the points you click. It can measure a straight line or a multi-point path depending on how many points you add.
Can I add more than two points?
Yes. You can click multiple points on the map to create a longer measurement path. The total distance updates as each point is added.
Can I see the distance in miles and kilometers?
Yes. The result is shown in both kilometers and miles, and you can use the unit switcher to choose which unit appears first.
Is this the same as driving distance?
No. This tool measures map distance between selected points. For road distance, travel time and route instructions, use the Driving Directions tool.
How do I restart a measurement?
Use the Clear Measurement button to remove all selected points and begin a new measurement.
Is the measurement exact?
No. The result is an approximate map-based distance. It is suitable for planning and general checks, not for surveying, legal boundaries or safety-critical measurements.
